Brief Introduction to NJUIT
Ⅰ.Overview
Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology (NJUIT) has evolved from Zhonghua Vocational School, established in Shanghai in 1918 by Mr. Huang Yanpei, an outstanding democratic revolutionary, social activist and educationist in modern China. It is the first vocational education school named as “vocational” in the history of China’s education.
Adjacent to Nanjing Zhongshan scenic area, NIIT consists of three campuses: Zhongshan campus, Tiantang campus and Xianlin campus, covering a construction area of nearly 400,000 square meters. It has 13,000 full-time students, with the teaching and science research apparatus and instrument valued up to a total amount of 147 million yuan. There is a collection of nearly 1 million books in the college library. It has 8 schools and 2 departments: School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Energy and Electrical Engineering, School of Economic and Business Management, School of IT and Software, School of Art Design, School of Humanity and Science, School of International Co-education, School of Continuing Education, Department of Social Science and Department of Physical Education. It boasts 17 specialty groups composed of 48 specialty orientations, and 3 national training bases. At present it has the staff of more than 800 persons, among whom there are 505 full-time teachers, 34.5% of whom are associate professors and professors, and 80 of whom are double qualified teachers.
NIIT enjoys a high reputation and influence in the society and prospers in admission. The minimum passing marks for admission has been the No.1 in the Jiangsu vocational colleges for 4 years continuously. The employment situation is also rather good. The employment unit our graduates work for are at high level and the average rate of employment with agreements upon graduation hits up to 96.5%, so NIIT has been awarded the Excellent Unit of Employment upon Graduation by Jiangsu Provincial Government in many successive years. And it was awarded by Ministry of Education “the Best 50 Colleges for their Typical Employment Experience in China” in 2012. It is Chairman Unit of Vocational Education Branch in Chinese Education International Exchange Association, President Unit of International Exchange Branch in Vocational Education, Chairmen Unit of the United Association for Overseas Training Program on Leaders of Chinese Vocational Colleges, Vice-director Unit of Chinese Light Industry Association, and Director Unit of Vocational Education of Chinese Light Industry Association. Director Unit of Jiangsu Light Industry Association, Director Unit of Jiangsu Mechanical and Electrical Vocational Education Group, President Unit of the Research Association of Jiangsu Vocational College Students Work, President Unit of the Research Association of Logistics in Jiangsu province, etc.
Ⅱ. Faculty Team &Teaching Work
The institute strengthens the construction of the faculty team conscientiously. At present, our institute boasts 1 national excellent teaching group, 2 provincial excellent teaching groups, 1 provincial science and technology innovation group, 2 provincial outstanding teachers, and 1 provincial advanced worker and 2 outstanding educators.
NIIT has always attached great importance to the cultivation and training of students' practical ability. It has strong experiment training conditions in the school.
School of Mechanical Engineering has more than 40 professional (group) training rooms represented by the national numerical control training bases, FESTO training rooms and car testing training rooms. Training area covers more than 10000 square meters and the equipment assets is more than 4000 ten thousand yuan.
School of Energy and Electrical Engineering has excellent operating conditions. In order to meet the demand of higher vocational education, it established experimental practice bases with advanced technology on and off campus, national electrical and automation training base, national renewable energy application technology and equipment manufacturing bases, electrical technology experiment center of Jiangsu province. It has 30 school laboratories and training center rooms with a total investment of nearly 40 million yuan and 10 million yuan was donated on the equipment by enterprises.
School of Economics and Management has set up business technology practical training base made up of 12 workplace simulation lab training centers with area of 5800 square meters and equipment costing almost 10 million yuan. It is undertaking the lab training tasks for 6 big major groups and provides vocational skills training and evaluation for the society. In recent 3 years, it has also set up more than 40 outside-campus field work and lab-training bases through college-enterprise cooperation.
Ⅲ. International Collaboration and Exchange
Based on the two platforms---Professional Technology Education Branch of China Education International Exchange Association and Singapore-Jiangsu Cooperation Council, NIIT has set up a very good cooperation with six vocational education organizations such as American Community College Association and twenty-five similar colleges abroad such as Nan Yang Technical Institute. It organized and planned international forums on vocational education and exchanged ideas on behalf of Chinese vocational colleges several times.
As an “Excellent” institute in terms of International exchange and corporation, till now it has set up good cooperative relations with colleges and educational organizations in several countries, i.e. the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, the United States, New Zealand, Finland, Korea and Japan. Our institute has established eight majors in corporation with overseas colleges, including Mechanical Manufacturing & Automation, Applied Electronics Technology, Applied Computer Technology, Business Information Technology, Electrical Automation Technology, Film and Animation, International Business, Resort & Hotel Management.
